Friday Blog Freebie/Baby Album QP1

I'm making a baby album for my niece, Mary Heart Therese. I decided to make the LOs into QPs, hence, every Friday, there's a QP to complete a Baby Book Album. It's a good thing that I bought digiscrap membership from Jannidee (janniscraps), Ruthie (sugarshackscraps) and Anita (aka nana's attic) before. So, I have so many kits to work-on while I'll also use some original stuffs from me and from those commercially used items that I bought before that seemed to be sleeping in my hard drive for some time now.

Here's a sample of the first page of this album. Heart is a girl but I made some variation in the QPs, I made QPs for both gender (just in case your baby is a boy). The QPs have extra space also just in case you want to put extra element/s, wordart, journaling on it. In my case, as per my sister's request, I used Pooh's character. Of course, I can't share with you that QP with the licensed character, this is for my personal use only.

Ok, this was supposedly posted yesterday but I've got so many things to do yesterday. So, here's your joke for the week.

FILIPINO SIGNS OF WIT

* The sign in a flower shop in Diliman called Petal Attraction.

* Anita Bakery

* A 24-hour restaurant called Doris Day & Night

* Barber shop called Felix The Cut

* A bakery named Bread Pitt

* Fast-food place selling 'maruya' (banana fritters) called Maruya Carey

* Then, there is Christopher Plumbing

* A boutique called The Way We Wear.

* A video rental shop called Leon King Video Rental

* A restaurant in Cainta district of Rizal called CaintackyFried Chicken

* A local burger restaurant called Mang Donald's

* A doughnut shop called MacDonuts

Smart travelers can decipher what may look like baffling signs to unaccustomed foreigners by simply sounding out the 'Taglish' (ThePhilippine version of English words spelled and pronounced with a heavyFilipino accent such as:

* At a restaurant menu in Cebu "We hab sopdrink in can an inbatol" [translation: We have soft drinks in can and in bottle].

* Then, there is a sewing accessories shop called Bids And Pises- [translation: Beads and Pieces --or-- Bits and Pieces]

There are also many signs with either badly chosen or misspelled words but they are usually so entertaining that it would be a mistake to 'correct' them like...

* In a restaurant in Baguio City, the 'summer capital' of thePhilippines: "Wanted: Boy Waitress"

* On a highway in Pampanga: "We Make Modern Antique Furniture"

* In a Baguio grocery: "Fresh Frozen Chicken Sold Here"

* On the window of a photography shop in Cabanatuan: "We Shoot You While You Wait"

* on a Flower shop in Rizal Avenue: "We Sell Artificial Fresh Flowers" (which probably means, artificial flowers that look fresh)

* And on the glass front of a cafe in Panay Avenue in Manila :"Wanted: Waiter, Cashier, Washier."

Some of the notices can even give a wrong impression such as:

* A shoe store in Pangasinan which has a sign saying: "We Sell Imported Robber Shoes" (these could be the 'sneakiest' sneakers);

* A rental property sign in Jaro reads: "House For Rent, Fully Furnaced" (it must really be hot inside!)

* Occasionally, one could come across signs that are truly unique - if not altogether odd. City in southern Philippines whichsaid: "Adults: 1 peso; Child: 50 centavos; Cadavers: fare subject to negotiation. "

* European tourists may also be intrigued to discover two competing shops selling hopia (a Chinese pastry) called Holand Hopia and Poland Hopia - which are owned and operated by two local Chineseentrepreneurs, Mr. Ho and Mr. Po respectively - (believe it or not!)

* Some folks also 'creatively' redesign English to be more efficient. The creative confusion between language and culture leads to more than just simple unintentional errors in syntax, but in the adoption of new words,' says reader Robert Goodfellow who came across a sign... "House Fersallarend' (house for sale or rent). Why use five words when two will do?

According to Manila businessman, Tonyboy Ongsiako, there is so much wit in the Philippines because "We are a country where a goodsense of humor is needed to survive." We have a 24-hour comedy show here called the government and a huge reserve of comedians made up mostly of politicians and bad actors. Now I ask you where else in the world would one want to live?

When You Think About Giving Up

Lesson from The Fern and the Bamboo

One day I decided to quit.... I wanted to quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality. I wanted to quit my life. I went to the woods to have one last talk with Creator.

"Creator", I said. "Can you give me one good reason not to quit?" The answer surprised me...

"Look around", The Creator said "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"

"Yes", I replied. "When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.

"In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo." Creator said.

"In the third year, there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit. In the fourth year, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit. "

Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant. But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall. It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle."

Creator said to me. "Did you know, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots. I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you. Don't compare yourself to others." The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern, yet, they both make the forest beautifutiful."

"Your time will come, you will rise high!" "How high should I rise?" I asked.

"How high will the bamboo rise? " was asked in return.

"As high as it can?" I questioned.

"Yes, came the answer, "Give thanks for your life and all that you have. Give me glory by rising as high as you can. And remember. I will never leave you, nor forsake you. I will never give up on you. I will never, ever quit on you."

I left the forest and brought back this story. I hope these words can help you see that Creator will never give up on you.

The Bride and the Bridesmaid

My Mom was my Aunt's (her sister) bridesmaid on her wedding day in 1965. The journaling in this LO was the actual dedication that my Aunt wrote to my Mom at the back of the photo. I just scanned and put it in this LO as well.

Grandma Through the Years
Here are some pictures of my grandma from her youth to present. She's now an octogenarian. As I was doing this LO, I couldn't help but cry as I wrote the journaling part, since I seldom see her now and every time I visit Lola (grandma), her eyes would sparkle and sometimes she would get teary eyed whenever I hug and kiss her.

Tips: How to Reduce Stress

1. Pray

2. Go to bed on time.

3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.

4. Say No, to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.

5. Delegate tasks to capable others.

6. Simplify and unclutter your life.

7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)

8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.

9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.

10. Take one day at a time.

11. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you to do and let go of the anxiety. If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.

The following pictures are of the same place but taken in different seasons...

Seasons of Life

There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too quickly. So, he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away. The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in the summer, and the youngest son in the fall. When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe what they had seen.

The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted. The second son said no, it was covered with green buds and full of promise. The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen. The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment.

The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but only one season in the tree's life. He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up. If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, and the fulfillment of your fall.

Moral of the Story:

*Don't let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest.

*Don't judge life by one difficult season.

*Persevere through the difficult patches and better times are sure to come some time or later.

I'm Back! and I have a "Welcome Me Home" Freebie

I'm back from our one week vacation from Ilocos. DH and I travelled with my eldest sister and her family. This trip was a wonderful one. We really had a great time, though I really missed the world wide web (LOL).

One of the reasons why this was memorable was because we met a wonderful couple from Australia, Derrick and Natalie. They were also having their vacation here. Derrick is also a hobbyist photographer like Mike and me. We all blended so well as if we've known one another for a very long time. We've become instant friends and families.

Of course, one of the greatest things that happened here was that we were able to shoot nearly 1,500 photos. And here are some that I really love. Patikim pa lang 'to (these are just a taste).

I took this photo of my sister and her husband (Ayie & Aljun) as they watched the sunset. Of course, the pose was orchestrated. Hehehe

Then, it's my nieces turn, taken during our last day at the Nipa Beach Resort. Here's my journaling on this LO:

Dearest Faye & Meg,

You jumped more than ten times just for the effect that I wanted to have--both of you in mid-air. However, your jumps never synchronized. In one shot one of you was high up there, in another shot, it’s the other. You never complained and you just enjoyed everything though both of you were obviously tired of jumping. Thank you so much for giving me these masterpieces. I love you both!
